Honoring our Heroes – Shirley Griffin

Shirley Griffin, U.S. Air Force

Shirley Griffin, E-5
United States Air Force (1994-1998)
United States Army National Guard (2004-2010)

What was your position while enlisted in the military?

I served in the United States Air Force, as a Military Police Officer, for four years, and the United States Army National Guard, as a Human Resource Specialist, for six years.

What inspired you to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces?

I’m a military brat and I wanted to follow my father’s footsteps. My father served 28 ½ years in the United States Air Force, retired as Master Sergeant in 1984.

How did being a part of the military shape who you are today?

It taught me discipline, integrity, and being a part of something greater than myself.

What did you do after the military?

I was honorably discharged from the USAF, but I missed the lifestyle too much, so I joined the US Army National Guard. When I didn’t have to report to my weekend duties, I had a career in the medical field.

Thank you to Shirley Griffin, (U.S. Air Force & U.S. Army National Guard veteran), for sharing her story and to all veterans who have served this country, past and present.
